What could go wrong?
Rules we strongly adhere to in our agency: Always purchase travel insurance and arrive the day before your cruise to allow for the unexpected.
Rule #1 – Arriving at the airport for our flight to London, I realized I had forgotten to purchase insurance. The first clue we had that there was a problem was after we boarded our flight, the mechanics started working on the emergency cabin lights that would not go off. After five hours we tried to find another flight so they took our bags off and left them on the tarmac... not having success we stayed with the original flight which finally left after midnight! Yes, they actually got the bags back on the plane.
Rule #2 – I did not follow my own advice as we were to land in London early morning and the ship did not sail until 4 pm. Due to the 8 hour delay, we missed the ship! We ended up purchasing tickets to fly from London to Amsterdam, then taking a train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam and staying overnight in a hotel in order to catch up to our ship.
All of this would have been covered under Trip Delay and it would have been far less expensive to have paid the travel insurance premium. Next time I won’t forget to purchase the insurance". So our feelings of what could go wrong? The answer clearly was "EVERYTHING!"
